So I was reading the newspaper they tape to the stall walls in the bathrooms at school...

Apparently gays, lesbians and bisexuals are twice as likely to smoke as their heterosexual peers. The intriguing thing about this, is that scientists can give a reason why most "high risk" groups smoke; for example, art and theatre majors are more likely to smoke because it's considered "artsy," and some class professor encourage them to smoke for their art. However, they have no concrete reason why homosexual and bisexual people are more likely to smoke...

I thought that was interesting...

The Tao of Coolness

So it seems, in my life at least, that coolness has a clever balance. For every cool action you do, you do an equal uncool action, generally speaking within 5 minutes or less of the initial cool action. Now bear with me people, this is definately worth reading.

So last night at work, we had an overnight because we were a bit backed up with machines. One of my friends/coworkers Nick decides to run up to the precinct and throw one of the 50 million random Geek Squad tee shirts we have lying around at me. Eric, my supervisor, looks at me and tells me to go throw it back at him. I run out to the sales floor, lob the shirt at Nick, narrowly missing another employee to peg him squarely. I turn deftly, weaving around displays and such to narrowly avoid the shirt as it is thrown back my way. I make my way back to the precinct, and as I step from the carpet to the tile, I remember that they are shampooing the carpet.

I feel myself growing top heavy, and fall hard on the floor. Which could have sucked enough. However, some combination of soap and momentum caused me to slide damn near ten feet, past the managers bridge, head first into the precinct.

I got laughed at. A lot. Although I must admit, I laughed at myself. Nick comes running over like 15 seconds later, pegs me triumphantly with the shirt. I give him a look, and tell him that it was a shame he was so busy retrieving the shirt that he didn't see my slip and slide experience.

We have a meeting next weekend. Back in the day LP used to show funny employee security videos at them. I hope I'm not one...

This should amuse English Majors:

So I am writing a research paper for English class on the Shakespearean authorship debate (for those unfamiliar, there is a lot of evidence suggesting Shakespeare did not actually write most, or any of his corpus), and I emailed my Professor with my general thesis. I am arguing for Queen Elizabeth being one of several "ghost writers" of Shakespeare's works, and am, in general, insinuating that she was a lesbian. Ergo, she released many sonnets through Shakespeare, because this admission would have created a massive scandal.

In my synopsis to said professor, I included the following sentence, which amused her greatly:

"My argument also fits in terms of Elizabeth being the "Virgin Queen."
Whilst there were decided political and physical advantages (like not
dying in childbirth, or losing power to her Prince Consort), it is
also arguable that she just wasn't attracted to me."

Powers: Telekinetic, Telepathic

Jean Grey

80%

Iceman

65%

Emma Frost

65%

Storm

60%

Beast

55%

Rogue

55%

Nightcrawler

50%

Cyclops

50%

Wolverine

40%

Gambit

40%

Colossus

5%

</td>

Most Comprehensive X-Men Personality Quiz 2.0
created with QuizFarm.com

On the State of the Hollywood Union

Ahem.

Hollywood - I know you're out there, and though I don't think you listen, I'm going to bitch at you anyways.

WTF is up with movies that are coming out in the next two years? I thought 2006 was going to be bad, but it looks like 2007 will be the year of the sucky cinema. This is a preliminary complaint, and I am sure more complaints will be added later.

Apparently, the film industry has done every other possible story concept, and all that's left is:

1. Remakes of movies that weren't alltogether wonderful to begin with.
A. Westworld - Horrible direction plagued the first one (Crichton, you are a writer, not a director!) so this time around, they decided it would be best to have some guy direct that's only done music videos before. WONDERFUL.
B. Hairspray - Whilst notable for opening the Baltimore film industry, this is being directed by the same director as "Bringing down the House," "The Pacifier," and "Cheaper by the Dozen 2" (because the only thing worse than directing a remake is directing the shittastic sequel to the remake.
C. Day of the Dead - Didn't the remake of Dawn suck bad enough? George, why are you letting people so this?

2. Sequels. Sequels are not by definition BAD, but for crying out loud, still kinda unoriginal.
A. Pirates of the Carribean 2 - The only movie in this category that I believe for half a second WON'T suck.
B. The Butterfly Effect 2 - Nifty concept and poor execution to begin with. Let's try to ensure this sucks with the director of "Honey," "Joe Dirt," and "The Scorpion King." In the past, this man did good work... in COMEDY. Films like "The Mask," and "Hot Shots Part Deux." Those were a long time ago. And this is a THRILLER.
C. The Bourne Ultimatum - Hm... I never saw the second one, but something tells me this is gonna suck...
D. Fahrenheit 9/11 and a half - Yeah, I kinda botched typing the title, but I don't feel like figuring out the half symbol. But wow, how much BS can Moore fabricate?
E. Fantastic Four 2 - Just because the first one is tolerable doesn't give you the right to make a second one.

3. Movies based on Video Games - Because no one has ever done one that was good as a standalone MOVIE.
A. Castlevania - Direceted by the director of "Resident Evil." Unfortuantely, he also directed "AVP."

4. Movies based on Books - Ah ha! Sometimes, these actually WORK.
A. Bridge to Terabithia - Who here read this book in elementary/middle school? It's a good story, and being directed by Gabor Csupo, of Klasky Csupo fame. He makes decent kid's flicks.
B. Fahrenheit 451 - Directed by the man behind "The Shawshank Redemption," this movie has a shot at not sucking.

5. Movies based on miscellaneous other media, like comic books, TV, etc.
A. Captain America - No concrete details. But it doesn't seem promising...
B. Emily the Strange - Oh look, a movie for the Hot Topic population!
C. Fraggle Rock: The Movie - LOVED this show when I was little. *crosses fingers* Please don't suck!
D. Ghost Rider - This just looks like it's gonna suck...
